Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see an audiologist?
No. You can book directly with Baitz Audiology without a physician’s referral.
If something in your assessment suggests that medical follow-up would be appropriate, we’ll explain why and help guide you toward the right next step.
Are hearing aids covered by OHIP?
OHIP does not currently cover the cost of hearing aids. However, financial assistance is available through Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP).
To qualify for the ADP, you must:
- Be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario health card.
- Have a hearing disability that requires a hearing device for six months or longer.
The ADP provides a subsidy of up to $500 per hearing aid. Patients are responsible for any costs above the subsidy amount.
We take care of the application process and help guide you through the funding options available to you.
Are hearing tests and earwax removal covered by OHIP?
Audiology services provided at our clinic, including hearing assessments and earwax removal, are not billed to OHIP. Some patients may have coverage through private insurance, workplace benefits or other funding programs.
We’ll help you understand what may apply to you before moving forward.
Do you take private insurance or group benefit plans?
Many private insurance and workplace benefit plans include coverage for hearing tests and hearing aids. Depending on your plan, we may be able to bill your insurer directly. If not, we’ll provide everything you need to submit your claim, and we’re always happy to help you through the process.
Do you offer financing or payment plans for hearing aids?
We are proud to offer 12-month interest-free financing on hearing aid purchases, allowing you to spread the cost over predictable monthly payments rather than paying the full amount at once.
Do I have to pay HST on hearing aids?
Hearing aids are zero-rated for GST/HST in Canada, so GST/HST is not charged on the hearing aids themselves.
Eligible out-of-pocket hearing-aid expenses may also qualify as medical expenses for the Medical Expense Tax Credit. For detailed guidance on claiming these expenses and understanding the available tax benefits, please refer to the Canada Revenue Agency’s official website.
Do you work with WSIB, VAC, ODSP, Ontario Works, NIHB, IFHB or other third-party funding programs?
Yes. We are an authorized vendor for these third-party funding programs and bill them directly, so you can access your hearing aid coverage without paying up front where your program allows.
Can you service hearing aids that were purchased somewhere else?
We are proud to work with all manufacturers. We will conduct an honest assessment of your current devices, review their programming and make appropriate recommendations regarding adjustments, maintenance or repairs if applicable.
Sometimes the right answer is a simple adjustment or repair. We’ll start by understanding what you already have and what you’re hoping to improve. More about hearing aid service.
When should I have my hearing checked?
Any time you have concerns about your hearing is a good time to have it assessed.
You may notice that conversations are becoming less clear, television volume is creeping up, certain voices are harder to follow, or listening in groups is requiring more effort than it used to.
A hearing assessment gives you a useful baseline even if no treatment is needed right now.
What happens if I’m not happy with my hearing aids?
Hearing aid purchases at Baitz Audiology may be exchanged or returned within the first 90-days of ownership. If the devices you selected are not meeting your needs, we’ll first work with you to understand why and make appropriate adjustments. If they still are not the right solution, you can exchange them or return them for a full refund.
